Thinker in Residence for SA's Screen Industry
01-03-2010
Each year, Mike Rann, the Premier of South Australia, invites two or three world-class thinkers to Adelaide to live and work for a period of 2 – 6 months. SASIC has been contacted by the SA Thinkers in Residence program to put forward a screen industry candidate for the 2010-2011 program.

The Thinker will have a tailored program of activities, including project leadership, research, master-classes, public lectures, mentoring, writing and publishing, with the expectation that they will contribute to a climate of creativity, innovation and excellence.

Of course the big questions are who would be great for SA right now and what are our current weaknesses? Do we want someone with a broad over-view or specialist skills?

We’re consulting quite widely on ideas for our submission and are eager to hear from SASIC members. Suggestions so far have been wide-ranging:

¨     Diane Cairns – previous Vice President of ICM and Universal Pictures, buyer, seller, packaging agent, Member Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

¨     Chris Anderson – author of FREE, and well-versed in the economics of new content distribution platforms

¨     Walter Salles - director

¨     Chris Doyle - cinematographer

¨     Henry Jenkins – Professor of Communication and Cinematic Art at the University of California…just to name a few!

Ideally, the Thinker will arrive in time for the opening of the Adelaide Film and Screen Centre at Glenside, and may also be a draw-card at the 2011 National Screenwriters’ Conference in Victoria.

If you have a suggestion of your own, please let us know the name of the potential candidate and why you think they would be good.If you want more information about the program, check out: http://www.thinkers.sa.gov.au/home.html
